Roccastrada Roccatederighi was founded in the Middle Ages on a hilltop as a property of the noble Aldobrandeschi family. It extends between the Maremma Grossetana plain and the Colline Metallifere and, together with seven other municipalities, comprises the Colline Metallifere Archaeological Technology Park. The medieval walls characterize the villages of Roccatederighi, Montemassi Torniella, and Roccastrada, but the ancient castles are also noteworthy, such as the one in Montemassi, built shortly after the year 1000 and depicted in a famous fresco by Simone Martini in Siena's Palazzo Pubblico; the Belagaio castle, within the Farma Nature Reserve; the Sassoforte castle; and the Roccatederighi castle. Also worth a visit is the Teatro dei Concordi in Roccastrada, whose neo-16th-century façade dominates the modern town center. It hosts events and exhibitions in the summer and a consistently interesting theater program in the winter. The municipality is part of the Città dell'Olio Association and its territory is included in the food and wine itinerary Strada del Vino e dei Sapori Monteregio di Massa Marittima.

Flying in Maremma
The flight experience begins with the inflation of the balloon on the ground, a moment that reflects all the charm of flight... which someone has defined as "the Pilot's dance." Once the balloon is ready, it's time to climb into the basket of the hot air balloon and perhaps prepare the camera or GoPro. Depending on what the wind brings, we can fly over the city and its fascinating medieval buildings, or, with the view of the city of Siena always in the background, we could admire the characteristic Chianti if the breeze carries us north, or even the rolling hills of the Crete Senesi if we are instead heading towards Siena.

When we think of Maremma, we can't help but think of its wine. In the area surrounding Borgo di Roccastrada, we'll take you on a discovery of the wineries, their products, and their diverse characteristics. Tours always include a visit to the vineyard and the winery, with a guide who will explain how the wine is made and the entire fascinating process from fruit to the much-coveted and beloved beverage. The tour concludes with a tasting of local wines and local products.

Discovering the surrounding area, as well as the village itself, by bike or on foot is the best way to see it all and experience its atmosphere. You can rent a mountain bike or an e-bike, both fully respecting nature and eco-sustainability. There are many outdoor activities to enjoy, including horseback riding with certified guides.
