Scarlino, in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, is a summer residence particularly beloved by tourists. The town has retained the authentic character of a medieval village. Guests love its quiet atmosphere, the narrow tiled streets that lead up to the central square, the fortress, the old grocery store, and the gazes of the elderly women behind the curtains. Everything brings back memories of the past. The village is not far from the wonderful beaches and small bays of Cala Martina and Cala Violina, and in the upper part of the village the Aldobrandesca Fortress, cAlso known as Rocca Pisana (after the owners who succeeded the Aldobrandeschi) or Castello di Scarlino, in ancient times it appeared as we see it today, with an irregular pentagonal base and three towers at the corners of the walls, each with a different shape. The vineyards along the Monteregio wine route in Massa Marittima invite you to take pleasant excursions and visit local producers to taste the fine DOC wines. Folklore events are also particularly popular: every year on August 19th, the Carriere folk festival takes place, a competition between the
three districts of the town, Donato, Rocca and center.
