It is also included in the Site of Community Interest n\u00b0 111 and in the Special Protection Area 111B identified as &quot;an area of great importance for the stopping, wintering and nesting of aquatic birds&quot;. The path of the <strong>Etruscan craftsmen<\/strong>, perhaps interested in the iron and copper mines of the <strong>Half Franco Point<\/strong>; here too the wealth of the noble Roman family of the <strong>Domitii Enobarbi<\/strong>, merchants and money lenders, who in Giglio Porto, as in Giannutri and Porto Santo Stefano, built a sumptuous maritime villa. The most powerful family of the Maremma Middle Ages passed through here, the <strong>Aldobrandeschi<\/strong>, and still the ships of the<strong> Republic of Pisa<\/strong>, the Spanish troops of <strong>Alfonso of Aragon<\/strong>; here pirate ships and ships have raged for centuries <strong>corsair raids<\/strong>.
